Did you already stop or are you still braking?

Brakes are some of the most important parts on your bike. There are also very many types on the market. To put is simply, there are two different types, rim and disc brakes. Rim brakes can be broken into three main groups - V-brakes, Cantilever, and side-pull/center-pull (road bike) brakes. Disc brakes are the most efficient way to stop your bike. Not only mountain bikers trust in the rotor at the center of the hub, road bikers are now adopting them as well. Most disc brakes are hydraulic with only a few manufactures producing mechanical types. Hydraulic disc brakes can be split into further groups, e.g. there are disc brakes with two or four pistons per brake caliper. Four piston brakes have more braking power. More braking power does not come from the pads exerting more pressure, but instead from the pads size. Brake calipers with four pistons have larger brake pads, so that there is more friction between the pads and the rotor. In this case, more friction means more braking power. The four pistons press the larger pads with equal force. However, the number of pistons is not the only factor that influences braking power, the size of the rotor is important as well. Because the friction surface of larger rotors is farther away from the center of the wheel, they can produce more braking power. Basically, the larger the rotor, the more braking power it produces. Besides that, you should note the material the brake pads are made of. The different materials of the pads effect the braking power. When you are choosing brakes, your weight and riding style decide what brakes you need. For CC or road bikes, a two piston caliper with small rotors (140-160 mm) is a good choice. Downhill bikes mostly have larger rotors (180-203 mm). Whether you choose between a four or two piston brake is up to you.

Are you looking for disc brakes, rim brakes, or spare parts for your brakes? You can find everything in this category including, brake pads, brake cables, pad retaining bolts, rotors, brake fluid, and many other small parts you may need.
