The frame keeps everything together!

This category has the right frame for every occasion. It could be carbon, titanium, aluminum, steel, or even tools that have to do with frames. Explore the possibilities.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of different frame materials? Steel has the advantage, when compared to aluminum or carbon that it is easy to work with. No matter where you are in the world, you can find somebody that can weld steel. That is why steel is perfect for touring bikes. If a carbon frame cracks or tears when you are on a longer tour, then it is time to pack your bags and go home. Another advantage of steel is that it is more flexible than aluminum or carbon. That means the frame takes a little bit away from the impacts so they are not directly translated to the rider.

Aluminum on the other hand is more lightweight than steel. Aluminum also does not rust as intensely as steel and aluminum frames are usually stiffer. When riding you pull up on the handlebars and push down on the pedal causing the frame to flex. Less flex means less power lost to the frame. Aluminum frames generally flex less. Because of their lack of flex, aluminum frames transfer every little impact directly to the rider

Carbon is a combination of carbon fibers and resin and is more lightweight than aluminum. When it comes to stiffness carbon has got them all beat. The individual characteristics of a carbon frame can be influenced during production. The orientation of the fibers determines where a frame is stiff and rigid and where it flexes to absorb force. Unidirectional carbon allows for stiffness and flex exactly where you need it.
