Most Nicolai frames are delivered with thru-axles as standard. Thru-axles are more stable and stiffer than quick-release axles. Rear wheel hubs for this standard have hollow axles with an outer diameter of about 18 to 20 mm and an inner diameter of 12 mm. The hollow axle is bolted to the dropouts of the frame using the thru-axle. The rear wheel hub thus has a load-bearing function. The coarse thread of the Nicolai thru-axles can still be easily bolted on mud trails, in contrast to normal finer threads. The tool on the trail for this: a 6 mm hex key. If the bolt is overtightened or firmly corroded, you can also loosen and fix the axle with a 17 mm open-end or ring wrench. Nicolai thru-axles are fully compatible with the RockShox Rear-Maxle standard.
