Operating Mode QUARQ
The crankset is the heart of your bicycle. Its sole job is to convert the effort from both legs to forward motion. It is the perfect place to measure power.
Power meters calculate power by measuring the torque (pedal force) and the angular velocity (cadence). Power = torque x cadence.
When you press on the pedals, all parts of the bikes drivetrain displace (flex) slightly under the load. Power meters are designed using finite element analysis to displace in a very controlled manner in specific locations in response to applied load. Strain gauges are used to measure the displacement and thus calculate the applied torque. Reed switches are used to calculate cadence.
Quarq’s next-generation power meter platform, DZero, is named for the DZero Experiment, one of science’s most accurate and innovative projects to detect subatomic particles moving at the speed of light. With a new measurement circuit, a revised strain gauge design, improved accuracy throughout the pedal stroke and software advances built into the Qalvin App, DZero represents the state of the art in power meter technology. Power measurement is independent from chainring selection. Switch from road to TT chainrings without impacting accuracy. No recalibration necessary.
