Bought a 10-speed grip shifter for a 1x10 drivetrain. Probably the best shifter I've ever used, absolutely precise. The grip itself is good, grippy. If you want, you can constantly grip the shifter itself, there is no danger of accidental shifts - although the shifting itself is very fine, and it needs a little getting used to.
As the shifter is more important than the derailleur, you can use it with an X9 or X7 (preferably with Type 2.1s), the shifting will still be perfect.
Note 1: The stock grip that comes with it is a little bit long, so I recommend using a custom grip. The standard length for those is 90 mm, however, you should choose something that you can cut to your individual length. I use it with an ESI Chunky cut to 70-80 mm.
Note 2: These shifters might be hard to use with newer, shorter Shimano brake levers, so try to see a real one and check your finger reach. You should either get a "Trekking" lever (available in Shimano XT) or use another brake with a longer lever, like the Sram Guides.
