Shimano Dura Ace FC-R9100-P power meter crankset - the latest generation in power measurement


Developed in collaboration with bikefitting.com, a subsidiary of Shimano, the Dura Ace FC-R9100-P crankset is Shimano's first power meter specialising in bike ergonomics. The device measures power using the crank arm, measuring left and right leg performance separately. The cadence and other important values for training such as momentum can be calculated. The power meter can be paired with electronic displays enabled with ANT+ or Bluetooth capability. The FC-R9100-P cranks harness real-time power measuring and recording, and can aggregate and assess measurement data. Just like „normale“ FC-R9100 without power measuring, the Power Meter crankset is a hollowtech crankset with hollow forged aluminium arms and Hollowtech II construction for an optimum stiffness-to-weight ratio. The large chainring is hollow-formed (Hollowglide) and lightweight.

Technology:


Hollowtech
Lightweight cranks reduce the total weight of the bike and above all the rotating mass which is decisive for acceleration. The challenge is to reduce the weight of the cranks without compromising stability and load capacity. Shimano's state-of-the-art forging technology offers an ideal solution with the Hollowtech cranks. Just like a high-quality frame tube, the hollow crankarm is extremely stable and resilient at a very low weight.

Hollowtech II
Hollowtech II technology was developed during the manufacturing process of an optimised crankset, which minimises riders' energy expenditure into the drivetrain. The higher lateral force stiffness guarantees efficient power transmission while pedalling, while the light weight leaves the rider unencumbered especially during longer stretches. The development of the crankset succeeds in regards to an optimal ratio between stiffness, rotational efficiency, low weight and an attractive appearance. Hollowtech Technology allows for an extremely light and hollow crank arm with exclusive forging technology from Shimano to achieve a maximum stiffness. The Hollowtech II crankset also includes a right crank connected to the bottom bracket axle, achieving an optimum balance between maximum stiffness and minimal weight. The external mounted inner bearing offers better weight distribution and stability for more efficient power transmission.

Hollowglide
Hollow outer chainring: The extremely stiff hollow structure reduces weight while maintaining consistent strength. Better power Better power transmission and faster, more precise front shifting.

Powermeter
The " brain" of the power meter, the central measuring unit, is housed in the Dura Ace crankset's case, while the strain gauges are integrated into the the crank arm, which measures left and right input power separately. The central measuring unit is compact, and fixed discreetly and inconspicuously behind the chainstays. This makes it the lightest and cleanest integrated system on the market. This construction enables the chainstay to be changed out easily, without compromising the precision of the power meter. Shimano's new E-Tube Platform makes system checks or firmware updates easily possible through Bluetooth-supported communication over smartphones and tablets. To ensure communication and display data across multiple bike computers or GPS devices, the power meter crankset is equipped with Bluetooth and ANT+. An integrated rechargeable battery supplies the power meter with energy. The battery is charged via a small magnetic adapter, eliminating the need for a cap or cover and maintaining weather resistance under all conditions.

Habe den Shimano Power Meter jetzt seit knapp einem Jahr und bin sehr zufrieden damit.
Anfangs hätte ich keine 5 Sterne gegeben, da die E-Tube Software auf dem iPhone nicht einfach zu paaren war, das ist jetzt aber seit einem Monat kein Problem mehr.
Der Shimano Power Meter hat den großen Vorteil, dass er voll integriert ist und auch soweit wasserdicht. Das Laden funktioniert mit einer USB-Powerbar ganz einfach. Eine Akkuladung hält "ewig", jedenfalls länger als 3 Monate.
