The XT BR-M8020 / BR-M8000 disc brake set by Shimano - 4 front and 2 rear pistons
The Shimano XT BR-M8020 / BR-M8000 disc brake set consists of a 4-piston brake for the front and a 2-piston brake for the rear. The XT BR-M8020 is designed to give trail riders and E-MTB bikers more brake power. It has 20% more braking power than the BR-M8000 2-piston brake, which nevertheless presents itself as reliable and powerful as ever. The calipers come in combination with the proven I-Spec II compatible XT BL-M8000 Servo Wave brake levers, allowing more tuning options for aggressive trail riding or E-MTB applications. Of course BR-M8020 and BR-M8000 are equipped with Ice-Tech and One Way Bleeding technology.

When you pull a Servo Wave brake lever, initial pad travel is fast, so little lever movement is needed to bring the pads into contact with the rotor. The power multiplication factor then increases rapidly at the pad-to-rim contact so more of the lever stroke is used to apply greater braking power with improved control.
The XT M8000 levers are compatible with the I-Spec II system, that allows to mount the shift and brake lever on the handlebar with only a clamp. This gives more freedom in the cockpit-design, save weight and improves the ergonomics thanks to diverse adjustment possibilities. Simple structure with narrow brake lever clamp band. More space on handle bar and cleaner appearance. Max. adjustment range vertical: 15°, max. adjustment range horizontal: 12 mm. I-Spec II brakes are not compatible with I-Spec- and I-Spec B shifters (and vice versa).
One-Way-Bleeding was developed for quick and easy prevention of air in Shimano's hydraulic system. They have streamlined the oil route throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from being captured in the system.
One way oil routing plus a funnel tool with mineral oil provides an easy and clean bleeding system.
Brake fading during prolonged uninterrupted operation, e.g. downhill, impairs braking performance. Shimano has introduced brake discs and pads with Ice-Tech technology to create a cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake rotor has a three-layer stainless steel sandwich structure on the outside around an aluminium core. It radiates heat better and reduces a surface temperature from 400° C to 300° C, for example. The brake pads also have optional cooling fins. The design of the rotor in combination with the cooling fins results in a longer service life of the pads, less braking noise, less fading and a lower weight.
XTR, Saint, Deore XT, SLX, Zee, Deore LX calipers are bundled with Ice Technology pistons in order to achieve optimized lightweight, high rigidity and heat dissipation. Oversized pistons transfer hydraulic power directly to the brake pad, and ceramic material is used to avoid heat transfer for constant stable braking, providing efficient stopping power transfer without loss.
