The XT BR-M8020 disc brake set by Shimano - double the number of pistons


Shimano has developed the XT BR-M8020 4-piston disc brake set (front + rear) to give trail riders and E-MTB bikers more brake power. It has 20% more braking force than a BR-M8000 2-piston brake set. The calipers come in combination with the proven I-Spec II compatible XT BL-M8000 Servo Wave brake levers, allowing more tuning options for aggressive trail riding or E-MTB applications. Of course, the BR-M8020 brake caliper is also equipped with Ice-Tech and One Way Bleeding technology.

Technology:


Servo Wave
When you pull a Servo Wave brake lever, initial pad travel is fast, so little lever movement is needed to bring the pads into contact with the rotor. The power multiplication factor then increases rapidly at the pad-to-rim contact so more of the lever stroke is used to apply greater braking power with improved control.

I-Spec II
The XT M8000 levers are compatible with the I-Spec II system, that allows to mount the shift and brake lever on the handlebar with only a clamp. This gives more freedom in the cockpit-design, save weight and improves the ergonomics thanks to diverse adjustment possibilities. Simple structure with narrow brake lever clamp band. More space on handle bar and cleaner appearance. Max. adjustment range vertical: 15°, max. adjustment range horizontal: 12 mm. I-Spec II brakes are not compatible with I-Spec- and I-Spec B shifters (and vice versa).

One-Way-Bleeding
One-Way-Bleeding was developed for quick and easy prevention of air in Shimano's hydraulic system. They have streamlined the oil route throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from being captured in the system.
One way oil routing plus a funnel tool with mineral oil provides an easy and clean bleeding system.

Ice-Tech
Brake fading during prolonged uninterrupted operation, e.g. downhill, impairs braking performance. Shimano has introduced brake discs and pads with Ice-Tech technology to create a cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake rotor has a three-layer stainless steel sandwich structure on the outside around an aluminium core. It radiates heat better and reduces a surface temperature from 400° C to 300° C, for example. The brake pads also have optional cooling fins. The design of the rotor in combination with the cooling fins results in a longer service life of the pads, less braking noise, less fading and a lower weight.
XTR, Saint, Deore XT, SLX, Zee, Deore LX calipers are bundled with Ice Technology pistons in order to achieve optimized lightweight, high rigidity and heat dissipation. Oversized pistons transfer hydraulic power directly to the brake pad, and ceramic material is used to avoid heat transfer for constant stable braking, providing efficient stopping power transfer without loss.

Nach den ersten Monaten mit dieser Bremse darf ich zugeben, das war eine gute Investition, unschlagbare Dosierbarkeit und Bremskraft. Ein Sicherheitsfaktor. Vorher hab ich mich mit ultrabilligen billigen Shimano-diskbremsen herumgeplagt, die nach 6 Monaten unheilbar zu qietschen begannen, egal was ich mit den Bremsbelägen und Scheiben machte. Und davor hatte ich diverse Modelle von A und M, die auch nicht wirklich allwetterfest waren. Ich leiste mir ,diese Bremse auf dem Arbeitsrad zu benutzen (overkill an sich), aber ich fahre wirklich unter allen Bedingungen ganzjährig (inklusive Salz auf winterlichen Strassen, spikes), und immer die Strecke in die Arbeit mit 18 % Gefälle, 200 Höhenmeter runter und wieder rauf.

Super Bremse! Die letzten Jahre bin ich immer die Saint gefahren und jetzt wollte ich diese an meinem neuen Enduro ausprobieren. Ich bin begeistert! Zum Vorwurf des Fading: ja, gibt es, wenn sie nicht gut entlüftet wurde. Und das liegt nicht am Öl sondern einfach am Entlüften (nachvollziebar). Zitat meines Händlers / Mechanikers.

Remplacé mes freins SRAM Guide par ces Shimano BR-M8020 4 pistons et c'est le jour et la nuit. Freinage puissant ! Installation très facile, y compris la purge Shimano très facile à faire. Un jeu d'enfant à installer pour un freinage fiable et puissant avec les plaquettes Shimano H01A, couplé à des disques Shimano RT86 en 203 et 180mm. Livraison très rapide de Bike-component. Denke !

Nach der Montage und dem folgenden Entlüften KEIN Druckpunktwandern feststellbar. Ergonomie Hebel, Bremskraft und Dosierung ist für mich gefühlt gleich wie bei der Saint Bremse. Habe die XT als alternative zur Saint gekauft und bin sehr zufrieden.

Fahre die Bremse an meinem Bikepark-Bike und bin sehr zufrieden. Nach ca. 2 Monaten (8x Bikepark-Tage) haben ich den ersten Satz Bremsbeläge verschliessen. Druckpunkt ist immer noch knackig und nach dem tauschen der Beläge die Bremse wie neu.
Gewohnt gute Shimano-Qualität!

Leider auch diese Bremse vom Druckpunktwandern betroffen. Mit einem anderen Öl wirkt die Bremse wie ausgetauscht, direkterer Druckpunkt, kein Wandern, super Ergebnis. Dafür, dass die Bremse nach Umbau funktioniert 3 Sterne, ansonsten 5. Shimano kennt das Problem leider schon viel zu lang, einfach traurig was aus einer XT heute geworden ist...
