With the Shimano XT M8100 1x12 groupset you can leave tracks

The Shimano XT M8100 1x12 groupset fits seamlessly into the success story of the first MTB component family ever. It consists of a single crank (32 teeth chainring), rear derailleur, right-hand shifter (either clamp or I-Spec EV), Quick-Link chain and cassette with 10-45 or 10-51 gradation. M8100 is the first XT groupset with 12-speed compatibility - a step that the XTR has taken before and that now allows even more bikers to use it. As in the first days, the focus is on endurance and performance, coupled with the riding pleasure and adventure that modern Mountain bikers seek on the trails of this world. Leave your mark - with the XT M8100 by Shimano.

My 2018 Neuron Neuron was equipped with a 2x11 XT groupset, which was pretty good in my opinion. The price of the new 1x12 was quite tempting (385 euro), so I decided to pull the trigger on the damn thing.

Installation is not too hard. But it is important to find out whether your bike manufacturer has a 12 speed derailleur hanger available for your model (sram / shimano , doesn't matter which).
In either case the 2x11 hanger does not fit (it's too long).

I have a non boost bike and ideally it needs a chainline of 49 mm. The m8100 crankset is suitable for boost and non-boost and has a chainline of 52 mm. So I was a bit worried there for chain skipping / rubbing.
However, the new cassette / chain has excellent grip and I don't have any back pedal issues.

Also the shifting under load is really smooth.
Shimano knows their stuff well and thanks to Bike Components you don't have to rob the bank. I'm one happy customer, so thanks a lot.
