Aero or lightweight? Well-ventilated or extra safe? The era of compromises in road biking is coming to an end. At least when it comes to headgear.
With the Twin Shell technology, Ergon has once again revolutionized the saddle.
With the ST Core Prime saddle, Ergon has paved a new way in cycling saddle construction. The Twin Shell design is perfect for all touring, commuting and E-bike riders looking for optimal weight distribution, maximum pressure relief, efficient pedaling and comfort. During my 3 month test, I was especially impressed by the bump absorption and ergonomic core.
The test
I was a little surprised when our Marketing team asked me to test the Ergon ST Core Prime saddle. Although I do ride to work every day, I usually prefer a more aggressive saddle with my seat bones only being 12.5 cm apart. However, Ergon has always been good to me and I decided to give it a whirl on my commuter.
Once I mounted the saddle, the white core was first to catch my eye. It’s made of E-TPU, which is a closed cell foam that supports pelvic movements and absorbs bumps in the road. The core is covered by the floating shells. Ergon calls this Twin Shell technology.
Due to this revolutionary construction, my rear end was well supported and my seat bones were relieved of any discomfort. It’s easy to tell that the Twin Shell technology works because the saddle adjusts itself to ever pedal stroke. The core also absorbs bumps on the road well and keeps the ride very comfortable. The large relief channel also does a great job of keeping pressure away from the perineal area.
The saddle adjusts itself to ever pedal stroke.
I tested the saddle for three months and rode it 22 km daily in all sorts of weather. In every situation, the ST Core Prime was the perfect saddle choice.
The Twin Shell tech works great.
Overall, a great saddle.
Although, I thought I would change back to my old saddle after the test, I cannot give up the Ergon ST Core Prime. The comfort in all types of clothing make it super versatile and exactly the right choice for commuters, tourers or E-bike riders. The Twin Core technology continues to impress and I am excited to see if Ergon will use it in other models as well.
