Review: SQlab 611 active CrMo Sattel

For a few weeks now, I have been riding SQlab’s 611 active CrMo saddle. After finding the right size, it was about to test it in real life.

For a few weeks now, I have been riding SQlab’s 611 active CrMo saddle. After measuring my seat bones with SQlab’s handy and useful measurement system, it was time to go out and test it.

Installation and Adjustment

I mounted the saddle to my Scott Genius 910. The tilt of the saddle is unique for each rider, but in general the nose should be slightly titled down in relation to the rear.

Before assembly, one needs to decide on which elastomer suspension insert because you can’t ride without one. Depending on rider weight you can choose between the white (soft, 40-70 kg), blue (medium, 65-85 kg) or the black (hard, 80-100 kg) insert. It is quite easy to exchange because all you have to do is push it out from the rear. I weigh 83 kg and decided to try out the grey elastomer. While testing, I decided to switch to the black one.

Technology

Why does a saddle even need the elastomer insert? A valid question. The elastomer is important because of SQ labs active saddle technology. The construction of the saddle allows it to flex relieving pressure on the seat bones, intervertebral discs and joints. This way the lower spine experiences less pain resulting in a less exhausting ride. Another interesting part of the saddle, is the long and low nose. Its length gives the rider, especially when riding off-road, the feeling of being more in control. The low saddle nose (SQlab Step Saddle Concept), was developed by an urologist and extreme rider Dr. Stefan Staudte. This ensures better load distribution which relieves pressure on the pubic bone.

Impression and Summary

Ok that’s enough theory. Let’s get to how it rides. To be honest, the first few times I rode the saddle I was disappointed. I was expecting a noticeable increase in comfort, but it was not there. Instead, the hard padding did not flex and was uncomfortable. I was especially not used to the width of the saddle and my seat bones were not having any of it.

However, with each ride the saddle began to form to my sitting position. Now I am extremely happy with my choice. It is almost as if the saddle was custom made for me and I don’t want to ever ride anything else. On the technical side, this saddle is top of the line. All of the technologies mentioned above work as described and going on longer rides are now more enjoyable. The times of riding 3 hours and no longer finding a comfortable sitting position are now gone thanks to the SQlab 611 active saddle.
