Combining Campagnolo with SRAM: the Shiftmate 1 by Jtek Engineering

The Jtek Shiftmate adapts the transmission ratios of incompatible shift components to each other. The shifter cable runs through the Shiftmate, which uses a special shifting wheel to change the cable ratio and match the shift levers. You don't compromise when you use a Shiftmate. The shifting process will work just as well as with original shifting components or even better.
With Shiftmate 1, you can combine Shimano or SRAM 8-/9-/10-/11-speed drivetrains and rear derailleurs with 8-/9-/10-speed Campagnolo cassettes or 8-/9-/10-speed Campagnolo drivetrains and rear derailleurs with 8-/9-/10-speed Shimano or SRAM cassettes. Save money with gradual upgrades or by using components and wheels that you already own.

Hätte mein Vorredner („John S.“) hier nur halb so viel Energie dafür aufgewandt, eine simple Aluminium-Endkappe (von z.B. Jagwire, Art.-Nr. 34406) mit einem kleinen Stück Schleifpapier im Umfang um ein paar Zehntel zu reduzieren (Zeitaufwand ca. fünf Minuten), wie er wahrscheinlich zum Verfassen seines Pamphlets oder für die Suche nach Endhülsen in England gebraucht hat, so hätte er feststellen können, dass es sich bei dem kleinen, feinen Teilchen tatsächlich um ein perfekt funktionierendes „true masterpiece of bicycle engineering“ handelt. Mit zwei linken Händen aber, muss man sich halt mit der Ware von der Stange zufrieden geben…
Köstlich übrigens die Vorstellung, wie sich Johnny mit seinem Anliegen („complain“?) an den „Jtek engineering support“ gewandt und nach vier Wochen immer noch keine Antwort auf seinen „support request“ erhalten hat. Was sich diese Ingenieure wohl gedacht haben müssen..?

A true master piece of bicycle engineering! /s To operate correctly, the Shiftmate requires the use of a cable housing and end cap of a very specific and rather exotic diameter which is not compatible with the housings/end caps of common brands like Shimaono, SRAM, Campy, jagwire etc ... Normal end caps are too big and will NOT fit correctly, leaving the Shiftmate inoperable. This is stated in the fine print of the installation manual and I have personally found out ... the hard way. Now the beautiful thing is, these quite expensive housings/end caps are extremly difficult to come by outside the UK, at least I was not able to find them here in Germany. If you really want to use the Shiftmate, be prepared to spend some serious extra money to order these elusive cables/end caps directly form the UK ... and I wish you good luck that they are actually available/in stock! Or if you have the required craft and micro tools you could try to ream out the socket a bit wider to fit an industry standard end cap (and and at the same time invalidate your warranty). Of course Jtek could have designed the corresponding socket of the Shiftmate to be just a fraction of a mm wider in the first place. Then industry standard end caps would fit and no customer would be required to discard their shiny new cable/housings to replace with some exotic stuff that has to be ordered from abroad. Or, hey, they could have just included the needed end cap! But then ... that would have simply been to easy, wouldn't it? BTW ... Jtek engineering support did not respond to my support request (pending for 4+ weeks now), which rounds off the picture nicely. Highly dis-recommended!
