Das IRT ermöglicht es, zwei unabhängige Drücke für die Luftfeder einzustellen und somit einem Durchsacken im mittleren Federwegsbereich bei gleichzeitig sehr feinfühligem Ansprechverhalten im Anfangsfederweg einzustellen.
Für eine möglichst lineare Federkennlinie (wie man sie von Spiralfedern kennt) empfiehlt es sich den Druck der IRT-Kammer auf das 2,15fache der Hauptkammer einstellen. Das bedarf evtl. etwas an Abstimmungsarbeit, da der Druck der IRT-Kammer als erstes eingestellt werden muss.
Ansonsten lässt sich mit dem IRT nahezu jede beliebige Federcharakteristik realisieren und ist sogenannten Tokens (Einsätze zur Verkleinerung des Volumens der Luftkammer) haushoch überlegen.
