For demanding conditions: the Shorty folding tyre by Maxxis in a set
DH WorldCup courses today are often steep technical monsters with constantly changing conditions. For this you need a mid-spike tyre that can handle dry, loose and extended corners as well as some mud. The Shorty is such a tyre. Large, high and slightly staggered side lugs penetrate loose soil and ensure predictable grip in curves at top speed. In the middle, two types of lugs alternate: Rectangular and square, with a strong bite when braking and excellent self-cleaning properties.
Note from the manufacturer:
Maxxis strongly advises against the use of ammonia-based sealant. Ammonia has been proven to attack the carcass and can weaken it by up to 30% after only a few months, depending on the amount used.
Maxxis recommends you use Tire Plasma.
Application: All Mountain, Enduro, Downhill
Type: folding tyre
Tubeless System: Tubeless Ready
Rubber Compound: 3C MaxxGrip
Carcass: 60 tpi
Dimensions: 27.5 x 2.5"
Air Pressure (max.): 3.4 bar
Manufacturer Part Number: 1314
At Maxxis, the 3C tread is moulded from 3 different rubber compounds in one piece and not subsequently assembled from two strips. Therefore, the treads can be shaped exactly according to the requirements of the respective tyre model, thus optimising the riding characteristics.
A new name for the well-known 3C Downhill compound that many of the best downhillers have trusted for years. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and cushioning for unparalleled Downhill traction.
Dual Ply Casing
Two fabric layers are combined and wrapped around the bead cores. The finished carcass then has four layers on the sidewalls and even 6 layers under the tread.
Tubeless tyres have many advantages: you can ride with less air pressure. This gives better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube, the risk of punctures is reduced. Maxxis TR tyres are better prepared for mounting with sealant than other " tubeless ready" tyres. The bead of the Maxxis TR tyres is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real UST tubeless tyre. This means that tubeless mounting is successful for all rims with standard dimensions event at first inflation and with little liquid.
Wide Trail Casing (WT):
This design optimises the tread layout and tyre shape on today's modern wider rims. Traditional tyres are designed for narrower rims and become square on wider rims, resulting in a less than optimal performance. WT tyres are optimised for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an inner dimension of 30 - 40 mm. Concerns tyres with a width of 2.4" and above.
