The Shimano disc brake adapter for 203 mm brake rotors compensates for differences between the mounting standards of the brake caliper and frame or fork. Depending on the version, it can be used to operate a post mount brake on an international standard fork or frame or an IS brake on a PM fork. Furthermore, there are versions to adapt IS forks, which only allow direct mounting of 160 mm brake rotors, and IS frames, which are designed for a 140 mm brake rotor, to a 203 mm rotor. The same is found with post mount: here, the difference between 160 mm, 180 mm or 200 mm direct mount and 203 mm is bridged. The scope of delivery varies from version to version.
