The XT SL-M8000-B-I shifter by Shimano - I-Spec and improved ergonomics

The Shimano XT SL-M8000-B-I shifter is designed according to the I-Spec (B) principle, which allows for a space-saving integration of shifter and brake lever. This also saves weight on the handlebars and improves the look. The handle, which can be flexibly adjusted in its position, has ergonomic levers with different structures. It comes with an Optislick inner cable, which reduces the effort required for shifting by 20%. The Vivid Index mechanism, always known for crisp feedback, has been further optimised. The left XT shifter can be used for 2x11-speed as well as for 3x11-speed drivetrains without a mode converter.
As a Rapidfire Plus shifter, the SL-M8000-B-I can downshift several gears at once and features 2-Way Release technology, which allows the shift cable to be released by both pulling it with the index finger and pushing it with the thumb. Of course, Instant Release for accelerated gear changes and - in the 11-speed version - Multi Release for the fastest possible shifting in both directions are also on board.

Rapidfire Plus
Rapidfire Plus is a type of Shimano shift lever construction that has been common in the mountain bike sector since 1985. Two levers, the main lever and the release lever, are used instead of a twist shifter. Rapidfire Plus shift levers, as the name suggests, ensure fast shifting. In addition, depending on the model, it is possible to downshift up to three gears with one shift stroke.

2-Way-Release
With 2-Way-Release, the shifter can be pressed and pulled to shift to the smaller sprocket or chainring. This allows you to adjust the shifting process to your personal preferences. Most Rapidfire Plus shifters are equipped with 2-Way Release.

Instant Release
With Instant Release, the spring and thus the cable are released immediately when the lever is actuated, which ensures an enormously fast shifting process. The delay caused by a two-step shifting process with click and release is eliminated, so that the gear change is considerably accelerated and improved.

Multi Release
With the Multi Release, which only affects the right-hand shift lever, two gears can be shifted with one actuation of the release lever without loss of shifting speed. This is independent of whether you use a Top-Normal or a Low-Normal rear derailleur.

I-Spec
I-Spec enables the connection between the brake lever and shift lever on MTB derailleurs from Shimano. The main advantages are a cleaner look at the cockpit, more space on the handlebars and, of course, weight savings.

Note from the manufacturer:

The I-Spec shifters have a new mount (Version B) as of 2014. First of all, there is no compatibility with brake levers with the old I-Spec mount. However, they can be made compatible with the old I-Spec brake levers by using a connecting bolt , provided the handle diameter on the handlebar is smaller than 32 mm. For handlebar grip diameters from 32 to 36 mm, there is no possibility to combine the XT I-Spec B shifter with older I-Spec brake levers.
