FACT
FACT is an acronym for " Functional Advanced Composite Technology" and summarises all the know-how that Specialized has in the use of carbon fibre. It encompasses a holistic approach that primarily concerns the frames but can also be found in many components such as handlebars, stems, seats, etc. The starting point is always an understanding of the needs of riders and the ability to meet those needs. Next, the selection of fibres, resins, and layering of fabric occurs; in this process, the quality of the carbon and the arrangement of the fibre layers are of great importance. Finding the right set-up for the given project and intended use or application area is crucial. Often, differentiation from model to model at several points is necessary. In the final step, the material is processed in a way that allows to achieve the desired benefits in terms of low weight, stiffness, and stability.

Rider First Engineered
Rider First Engineered refers to Specialized's design approach of precisely tuning each frame size to its target audience. In simple terms, smaller frames for smaller riders are built in a way different from how larger frames for larger riders are built. This is done based on performance parameters determined in practical tests, considering the forces acting in different areas of the bike when riders of various sizes use it. From this analysis, the optimum tube dimensions and the appropriate carbon fibre overlay for the respective frame size are determined. This way, regardless of your height, you can be sure you'll get a bike that delivers optimal and controllable performance suited to your size.

Supercomputer Simulations
At the beginning stages of development for the Specialized Aethos was the theory that the shape of a frame makes all the difference in ride quality. To explore this, elaborate simulations conducted in a virtual testing environment were utilized. Supercomputers calculated 100,000 frame designs, each with varying degrees of bottom bracket stiffness, head tube stiffness and overall stiffness. From the wealth of resulting data, an optimal riding form was gradually developed by adding more filters. The result is a super-light frame with a smaller diameter bottom bracket and seat tube than conventional models. Elongated-conical sections were built into the tubes, allowing a significant reduction in carbon layers (minus 11% compared to the S-Works Tarmac SL6) and thus weight. Thanks to the widening of the top tube and down tube and a matching connection to the bottom bracket and seatstays, the result was a stable, perfectly balanced machine that provides the ultimate riding experience.
