The Roubaix Comp Rival AXS Road Bike by Specialized masters pavé and poorly paved roads
The Specialized Roubaix Comp carbon road bike with SRAM Rival eTap 2x12-speed electronic groupset and Rival disc brakes scores on rough surfaces with flexibility, smoothness and performance. It is equipped with Future Shock 2.0 technology, a spring-based hydraulic damping system which is mounted in the head tube and absorbs bumps without affecting forward drive. Fork and frame, incidentally one of the lightest in its class, offer generous tyre clearance up to 33 mm. Plus, the S-Works Pavé seatpost adds flex with its D-shaped design and special clamp. These comfort features are never made at the expense of performance, which was the prime directive in the development of the Roubaix. Numerous victories in the eponymous cobblestone classic speak for themselves. In terms of aerodynamics, the bike is comparable to the Tarmac SL6 - where again, Specialized has made use of the wind tunnel and computer-generated tube shapes. In keeping with the Rider First Engineered™ philosophy, Specialized has taken into account the optimal carbon layup for each individual frame size.

Technology:
FACT™FACT is an acronym for " Functional Advanced Composite Technology" and summarises all the know-how that Specialized has in the use of carbon fibre. It is a holistic approach, which primarily concerns the bike frames, but is found in many components such as handlebars, stems, saddles etc. The starting point is always the awareness for the needs of riders and the capability to fulfil them. Next, the selection of fibres, resins and fabric layers takes place; in this process the quality of the carbon and the arrangement of the fibre layers play an important role. It is important to find the right set-up for the project at hand and the intended location or rather the area of application. It is often necessary to differentiate from model to model at several points. In the final step, attention is paid to processing the material in a way that allows the desired advantages in terms of low weight, rigidity and stability to be achieved.
Future Shock 2.0
The Future Shock 2.0 System is an adjustable hydraulic damping system for road and gravel bikes developed by Specialized in collaboration with McLaren Applied Technologies. It is based on a cartridge with several springs, which is used in the head tube. When you ride over a bump in the road, it offers up to 20 mm of travel - in a vertical direction to be specific. This results in a shock-absorbing effect without - as would be the case with horizontal compliance - any loss of speed. You stay fast, but ride more comfortably, especially on long distances. Numb hands and tired arms are prevented, which in turn increases performance. Compared to suspension fork systems, Future Shock also has the advantage that the geometry of the wheel and thus the handling can remain unchanged.
Rider-First Engineered™
Rider-First Engineered describes the design approach used by Specialized to precisely match each frame size to the target group. Simply put, smaller frames for smaller riders are built in a different way than larger frames for larger riders. This is done on the basis of performance parameters determined in practical tests, taking into account the forces acting on different areas of the bike when riders of different sizes ride it. Based on this analysis, the optimum tube dimensions and the appropriate carbon fibre covering for the respective frame size are determined. This way you can be sure that no matter what your height is, you will receive a bike that delivers optimal and controllable performance suited to your size.
Aerodynamic Expertise from Specialized
" Aero is everything" is not an empty slogan at Specialized. Their engineers rely on decades of experience in aero design, and use a variety of state-of-the-art methods in the developing top aero racing machines. Central to this is, of course, the wind tunnel (" Win Tunnel" ) at the company's headquarters in California, which is available around the clock. It is specially designed to meet the requirements of cyclists and typical situations in road cycling, such as team time trials or riding in a group. The development process always begins with the FreeFoil Shape Library, a collection of countless tube shapes and structures which helps engineers figure out the most interesting configurations for wind tunnel testing. But one does not always have to analyse actual objects. There is also Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which uses computer simulations to experiment with aerodynamic properties. Specialized also makes use of the Data Acquisition System (DAQ), which collects data such as a rider's power, speed, riding position and wind angle of incidence during practical tests on the road or in the velodrome. In turn, conclusions can be drawn from all this information for use in bike fittings and fine tuning.
