The saddle for Road and MTB: The 612 Ergowave active saddle by SQlab

The 612 Ergowave active was specifically designed to accommodate the requirements of both competetive and leisure cyclists both on the road or mountain bike. The wave-like shape and raised rear section provides perfect rearward support and an optimal pressure distribution which reaches deep into the body structures resulting in improved power transmission. The lowered nose in combination with the dip provides optimal pressure relief for the perineal area. The flat but slim SQlab MaxContact® saddle nose and the firm padding of the 612 were both specifically designed for the needs on the road bike. The SQlab active technology allows the saddle to follow the biomechanical motion when pedalling resulting in increased comfort, mobilisation of the spinal discs and reduced pressure to the sitbones.

The wave shaped Ergowave profile which contours from the rear to the front offers a perfect form-fit shape for most sit bones. The rider does not need to be seated in an inefficient and tiring sitting position and all energy can be used for forward propulsion.

Sit Bone Measurement
A saddle should fit like a pair of shoes! If a saddle is too narrow, it creates pressure precisely where there shouldn't be any.

SQ-Shore is the measurement of how hard the padding is. SQlab saddles are available in 30-70 shore. The higher the shore, the harder the saddle.

I looked at this saddle for months before buying. The claims made for it by SQLab are so extravagant that I thought maybe this is just marketing hype as opposed to actual science and research. However, as I was continually experiencing pain and discomfort in the perineal area - even on my leather Brooks B17 which I had previously ridden for years with no problem - I decided to give it a go. I can honestly say it feels almost miraculous. Absolutely no pain or discomfort.
SQLab claims that the design reduces pressure on the perineal are - true. SQLab claims that the design minimises pressure on the sit bones - true. SQLab claims that the design of the rear of the saddle offers more support and ensures more efficient power transmission - it certainly feels like this is true.
Whether the 'Active' element of the design is contributing is harder to tell, but given how well designed this saddle is I am am inclined to take their word for it!
The best saddle I have ever used.
